LIFETIME of scientific research has con- vinced Dr Robert A. Millikan that there really is a Divinity that guides man's destiny.

Many men of science have been agnostic. They believed that life and the universe could bo explained without recourse to God.

But the 80-year-old Nobel Prize winner, re- tired now as president of the California Instituto of Technology, holds that "a purely materialis- the philosophy is......the height of unintelli- gence."

Millikan proclaimed his views at a meeting of the American Physical Society. No scientist has delved more deeply into the mechanisms of matter. It was Millikan who first determined the charge and mass of the electron, the tiniest known particio in the universo.

He told America's leading physicists that "wise men in all the ages have seen enough to at least make them reverent." He quoted Dr Albert Einstein as saying:
