U.S. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE JAPAN

Forecast By Prominent Historian

Philadelphia, June 9.-The United States will demand, at the Japanese peace conference, that Nippon be kept weak militarily yet strong enough economically to resist Soviet influence, according to one observer today.

Prof. Kemeth Scott Latourette of Yale, author of several history textbooks on Japan and China, belleves the U.S. Government "will probably believe it to be a duty to defend Japan against Russia.
