Educated Indians To Be Conscripted As Teachers

Bombay, Feb. 4–The conscription of

educated

,men and women for service as teachers is proposed by Maulana Abdul Azad, the Indian Education Minister, or a drastic short-term measure to reduce the number of the country's 250,000,000 illiterates.

Government officials are likely to be called upon to give their spare time for teaching in evening schools. Factory executives will be expected to bear the responsibility for the basic education of their ployees, the Minister said.
