Duisburg, Jan. 16.-A 24-hour general strike by 140,000 workers protesting against "starvation rations" paralysed four Ruhr industrial cities to- day-the great inland port of Duisburg, Muelheim, Dinalarken and Oberhausen. Essential services were maintained but tramcars and local railways- stopped and no Rhine barges were loaded or un- loaded.

All strikers are expected to return to their work tomorrow, but if no action is taken to improve food rations within the next ́ ́ few days, the Trade Councils of Duisburg, Mulheim, Oberhauson and Essen will meet at a district conference next Friday to decide'on further measures,

Herr Gustav Sander, veteran by Huns Boeckler, head of the Ger- Socialist and chairman of the Tradesman Federation of Trade Unions Council, said today: "We shall strike after a conterence' of British and ogain if necessary and "bring the ¦ German' officials ended without any miners out too."
