Conscription Policy Approved At Labour Party Conference

Margate, May 26.

The Labour Party today endorsed the Govern- ment's conscription policy by a four to one majority. A statement on the colonial policy by last year's chairman, Professor Harold Laski, was the other highlight of the Party's biggest annual conference. The debate on conscription was lively, as the pacificism of prewar days still has a strong hold on any section of the labour movement. A mover of resolution appealing

against the loss of liberty under the present law said that the last conscript to ba called up under it would not be free from the military machine until 1961, 16 years after the end of the war.
