Afraid Of Russians

Germans behind the Soviet zone's "iron curinin” are afraid of the Russlaris, but the average German who is pinned down to facts will admit that the conduct of Soviet occupation troops in the past year has been "quito correct.”

This Is the conclusion of this correspondent after a five-day tour of the northern part of the Russian zone-the first extended tour granted by the Sovieta in seven months.

I found no reign of terror. People eat, work and play just as they do In the American zone, but most Germans dislike and fear the Rus- sians. Germans resent any occupa- tion force. They have been taught 10 hate and jeur the Russians through 12 years of Hitlerism. Some drunken and some criminal cle- ments in the Soviet army, heighten their fears.

There are rumours of Germans disappearing, but I found no con- crete evidence of it.
