VITAMIN B6 MAY CURE CANCER

TW

WO young research workers at the Anderson Hospital for Cancer Research in Houston, Texas. are taking part in the fight against the grent killer with a study of how a vitamin works in forming now body tissue.

Dr Fritz Schlenk, biochemist, and his as- sistant, Misis, Aline Fisher, report an important discovery concerning how vitamin B6 functions in protein synthesis, or more simply, how worn- out body cells are replaced by now growth.

Dr Schlenk and science lind understood only how three of the 12 known vitamins worked in bodily processes, but this recent discovery In Houston nuda a fourth along with vitamina B1, B2 and nicotinic acid.

THE Anderson Hospital researchers point out

that their discovery is much more than one which merely will add tó a knowledge of vitamins, beenuse the growth of cells is linked directly with the study of the cause of cancer.

"If we want to control cancer growth," Dr Schlenk said, “we must know overy detail about it."

He said the goal was still far distant, but "we hope we have learned something here that will be of value in the fight.”

Dr Schlenk, in his experiments with vitamin BG, hopes to discover just what makes cancerous tissue grow. That may be the key to the eventud prevention and cure of the disease:
