The story of this sallow, chubby man with a' shock of white hair should be printed as a leaflet and given to every young scientist entering the Government service now.

For it is the story of an ex- Serviceman who started at the bolton after his carcer had been interrupted by war. And a story of success won, not so much by brilliance as by stondy endeavour.
