bo

BBC Reception New Stocks Have Arrived!
Notes
BY "ETHERMAN” ·
In order to help the listener who prefers to receive programmes direct from England here are some observations made on an ordinary receiver during the past week.
Until 7 pm. local time the best trans- mission is undoubtedly GVT on 21.75 Mc. (megacycles per second). This trans- mission does not appear to carry the normal Far East programme and switcher off at 7 o'clock just before the news, However, it provides a good signal and enjoyable listening from about 5 to 7 pm. At 7 o'clock one should tune to a slightly lower frequency in the same 13 metre band. There are two transmissions that provide a fair signal with little distortion due to fading," although one is often spolled by interference from a morse lation. There staitons remain good until about 9.30 or 10 s'alack when deep fading starts and' Anally they disappear altogether.
You Will Find Next Week's BBC Highlights On PAGE 4
The other frequencies' are poorly, re- ceived during the early 'part of the: evening. There is a transmission in the 10-metre band. but it is very weak, the 19 metre-stations in a little better though hot sufliciently strong to provide enter- faiment value. The 23 and 31 metro band transmissions have not been heard during six period..
As the evening wears on the higher frequencies tahorter wavelengtha)` begin to disappear and the lower frequencies start to be received... About 5 p.m. the 29 metre.. transmission appears.
