SOVIET AIRMAN'S

PAMIRS FLIGHT

Moscow, Jan. 5.

The famous Soviet air- man, Ovsyanninov, is just back from a trip to the

Pamirs, along the toughest

air route in the Soviet Union. This flight brought his total the distance flown over Pamirs within the last eight years to 621,360 miles.

A Soviet News Agency correspondent who was on board the plane during the latest flight, now back in Stalingrad, says that for 250 miles the pilot took his plane at a height of 16,000 fect through narrow wind- ing mountain gorges. Ahead towered Peak Stalin, 24,605 feet high.

Flying along this route re- quired exceptional skill and endurance on the pilot's part. Reuter.
