Britain Sets Up Film Academy

A representative cross-section of Britain's film-makers met recently and decided to set up a British Film Academy. The initial step was to appoint the following temporary committee-Anthony Asquith, Michael Balcon, Sir Alexan- der Korda, Frank Launder, David Lean, Michael Powell, Emeric Pressburger, Carol Reed and Paul Rotha.

With no little astonishment, these busy gentlemen roport that most of the players stárrod, featured or oven merely mentioned in the casts of inte silents and carly talkies about 20 years ago are still either working in pletures or are willing and waiting to do so.

And, surprisingly enough, some of them have neither lost nor tarnished their piltler. For example, there are Warner Baxter, Richard Dix, Ronald Colman, Willian: Powell, Greta Garbo, Herbert Marshall, Myrna Loy, H. B. Warner, Lionel Barrymore, Irene

Virginin Bruce, Charles Chaplin, Dolores Del Rio, Lillian Gish, Anni Harding, Mary Astor, Creighton Hale, Jack HoÏl, Walter Pidgeon, Basil Rathbone, Anna Q. Nilsson und Juck Mulhali, all of whom fought through the coming of sound to equal if not brighter fame.

Other Great Names

Then, there's Al Jolson, first grent singer of the talle era and famous for his "hammy" songs. Jolson still going strong. Recently he ap pented in "Rhapsody in Blue".

Monte Blue, one of the silent ple- ture greats, hasn't been off the screen for more than a month at a time. He recently completed an important role in "Cheyenne" with Dennis Morgan, Jane Wyman and Janis Faire.
