The Future Of Trieste
Bitter Accusation Of Britain
And U.S. By Slav Delegate
Paris, Oct. 2.-The last word on the Paris Con- ference's most controversial outstanding issue, the future of Trieste, will be spoken in the Italian Political and Territorial Committee to-night.
There are suggestions here that the debate may be sharp and outspoken. Under the Big Four "gag" plan to end the conferente by October 15 the committee's chair- man has ruled that discussion on Trieste must be completed by to-night's meeting, beginning at. 11.30 p.m. ́ ̈
The committee has held threa full sessions in little over 24 hours with no sign of agree ment. The sub-committee spent 15 meetings trying to reconcile eastern and western views on

The main conflict remains between the Western desire that the Governor a representative of the United Natione-should have strong powers, and the Soviet view that the chlef control should be in the hands of an elected Parliament with a large- Yugo-Slav voice.
The Italian Political and Territorial committee of the conference spent the Arst 50 minutes of its meeting carller to-day deciding how the future constitution of the proposed free territory of Trieste should be discussed. A Soviet proposal that the cominittee should first consider the articles of the draft treaty selling out the general principle for the statute already agreed on by the Big Four, was rejected by eleven votes 10 eight.

Mr Willard Thorp (United States) proposed that reparations to be paid by Hungary should be reduced to $50,000,000 Instead of £75,000,000 proposed in the Foreign Ministers draft. Under the agreed clause of the draft treaty, Hungary was to pay £50,000,000
