Racing fans, I am sure, have been patiently waiting for the resumption, but it is obviously not to be expected that all the candidates will be running up to their best form after a holiday in the pastures.

However, there were fireworks at Happy Valley last Saturday, and a few "dress rehearsal" gallops elevated the eye-brows of those early birds sitting on the rails.
