Canuckettes Humble Cardinals 12-8

Madcaps Nose Out Mohawks 4-3-

WEEK-END SOFTBALL was confined to Sunday, two tames being played at the Kowloon Football Club. In the opener, Canuckettes made short work of the Cardinals, going home with a 12-8 victory, and in the nightcap, the Madcaps "nosed out the Mohawks 4-3 in a fine and thrilling tussle, which

was only decided in the eighth inning.

Cardinals jumped into a 4-1

lend after two leases of the

plate, but it was in the third U.S.S. Mindanao

stanza that the Canuckettes'

heavy battery opened fire and forced six trips across the plat- ter.

It was not quite sumclent to win the game, and the Canadian girls made matters certain with another four-run barrage in the Aft that left the Cardinals without a hope.

These are not the good old days of early softball when it was nothing! nurprising to see double figures scored in one inning, and the Cardinals were left without a hope.

TEMPORARILY forsaking the baseball bat, men of the U.8.8. Mindanao donned pads and tried their hands at the old English game of cricket at Sookunpoo yes- terday, but were beaten by the Royal Engineers by two wickets. Scoring, comparatively speaking. was very high, their first Inning's total of 47 must have seemed a dizzy run spree to the baseballers. The Engineers repiled with 51-a four runs' lead.

Exuberantly, the sailors took to the runs bat again, but this time fell short of their first innings' score, being all out for 30.

However, with a lend of 20 runs which would be a record in any League in the old U.S-they felt confident, but falled to hold the Sap- pers who scored 30 for 8 wickets and this won by two wickets.

A WILD, FLING in the eighth brought victory to the Madcaps against the Mohawks in the nightcap. Scoreless for the first two frames, Mohawks opened their account in the third with a single, and they held the lead until the fifth, when the Madcaps crossed three times..

It was a short-lived lend, however, for in the succeeding inning, the Mohawks baited in two and hand- cuffed the scores 3-all. The seventh brought no results, and it was left unill the eighth for the declder,

AS ANTICIPATED, Mobile Column took top honours in the Volunteer Corps swimming championships in the Army The heroic efforts of Bright, Thomas, Fraser Pool on Saturday night, beat- and-Blackburn were unavailing against the wiles ing the Portuguese Company by 23 points to 20, but finishes of Leo Wai-tong, Lau Chung-sang and Chau Man-were generally very close. National records were bettered. chi yesterday, when the Association's Governor's Cup team of last season were defeated by the South China Touring team at Caroline Hill by five goals to nil in a Charity game.
