PREPARING FOR LAND INVASION

Great Britain is apparently preparing for the inevitable Fland invasion of the continent which must come sooner or later If Germany is to be subdued by the force of arms.

News from London that additional men are being called to the colours is no surprise. For months Britain has been mustering men and drafting women. Inte industrial service to re- lease man power for the armed forces.

Recently 500,000 women were

drafted for work in factories to replace able bodied males. In addi- tion, 1,000,000 men were made sub- Ject to military service. This figure includes 1,000,000 men which the Brilish consider sufletent to repel any German Invasion attempt..

Not For Home Defence The surplus coldlers must be in- tended for other purposes than home defence.

Presumably they are for a future expedition to Europe, unless Chan- cellor Hitler breaks the continental bounds and turns his full energy to ward the Mediterrancan and Africa. But Hitler at present has his bands full with Russia and he seems likely to be in the same position through- out the winter,

The withdrawal

of Nazi troops from German-occupied western Eu rope for service in the east lessens the threat of

I of invasion against Britain. Moscow has been urging Britain-to strike now wille

while the Soviets keep the main German forces occupied in the cast, but Britain apparently does not consider the time ripe.

Perhaps the British will strike next spring, it all goes well, but not now. The British want no more CX- periences like Dunkirk.

Question Of Man Power There are several reasons which lessen the chances of a successful. invasion of Europe by the British at the present time.

One is the question of man power, The Germans probably have at least 0,000,000 troops despite the losses In the Russion campaign. They also have such allies as Italy, Rumania, Hungary and Bulgaria.

Germany also has the world's most powerful mechanised army, ono which easily crushed every foe until
