Germans Abandon Many Soviet Front Positions
Special to the "Telegraph"
MOSCOW, Sept. 4 (UP).—The newspaper "Izvestia" to-day reported a serices of successful local counter-attacks on the west front but did not indicate the positions. It said that the Germans are abandoning one position after another after fierce resis-
tance.
Last Tuesday, the Germans tried to halt the Russians and staged a "Psychic Cymbals. The Russians let them advance in direct formation then opened heavy

Mr. Carman revealed that 21 tunnels were in existence in the Colony and would accommodate 200,000 people. Additional tunnels were now being built at Aberdeen. He also disclosed that although it was originally decided to use timber, this was found to be unsatisfactory and they were replaced by reinforced concrete.
Letters exchanged between Marsmans and the Director of Public Works were read out in the court and principal extracts from these appear in Column 4.
