We Gain Initiative In Western Desert

LONDON, Aug. 7 (Reuter). The initiative in the Western Desert has now passed into British hands completely, It is stated in authoritative quarters in London to-day.

The Axis Powers, instead of threatening an attack on Egypt, are talking nervously of the possibility of the British attack- ing Libya, Sicily and the Greek islands.

Emphasis was laid on the bellet that if Japan attempted an attack on Singapore, Japanese resources would be taxed to the utmost

It is stated that the recent British offensive on the Sollum front took such a toll of German' armoured fighting vehicles as to rule out an offensive by the Nazis on that front In the near future, even if it were possible while Tobruk is still hold. Ing out.

ONE ISSUE TO BE

STOPPED

LONDON, Aug. 7 (Reuter).-Cer- tain technical changes are announced in the Treasury's war borrowing. After August 14, the present issue of two and a half per cent, national war bonds, 1946-48, now totalling some £400,000,000, will be discontinued.

The issue of three per cent. saving bands, 1055-65, will continue sub- stantially unchanged,

Thus the Treasury will revert to use earlier practice of relying solely on one,

one market issue.
