Swapping
Of Civilian Internees
LONDON, Aug. 6 (Reuter). The plight of British civilians detained in enemy or enemy-occupied countries was touched upon by Mr Anthony Eden In the House of Commons to- day when questioned on this subject. Releuse of such persons, said Mr Eden, was largely a matter of re- ciprocity. Since it was contrary to the policy of the British Government to release enemy subjects, of military age, no step had been taken to secure the repatriation of male subjects who at the outbreak of war wero com- pleting their education at continental universities. ^-
Route Disagreement Whild the British and German Governments were in general agreo-', ment as to repatriation, on ‹à re- elprocat basis of other classes of elvillan subjects, it had unfortunately so far. been found impossible to arrive at any
understanding on the route by repatriation could have taken. -
The German refusal to grant safe conduct for any ship carrying elvillang to or from the United Kingdom had rendered progress Impracticablo for, the time being.
