THE spirit which animated the conclusion of the Russo- Polish part this week is one which calls for the highest admiration. It is the product of an overwhelmingly common desire to do everything to defeat a common enemy.

A speedy readjustment of views can be confidently anticipated and there is nothing to indicate that the pact is in any danger.

Its significance cannot be lost upon the Nazis. In 1939, Ger- many and Russia between them carved up Poland. Two years later Poland, despite the fact that her borders had been violated, found it possible to reach a pact of mutual aid with Russia; but for Germany she has nothing but ever-increasing hate and bitterness. This same feeling permeates all of the countries which the Nazis have | occupied-a signal testimony to the ruthless cruelty of the Hun conquerors. This characteristic. of the Nazis has also done some- thing else; it has welded to- gether in common determination the oppressed countries, who, though at the moment are sub- jugated politically and physic- ally, are spiritually and with every weapon at their command, fighting the oppressor. Thas old political differences and heartburns can be forgotten, or at least laid aside, while the great task of defeating Hitlerism -the menace of the world—is carried on with all the power and resources available. This is the true meaning of the Russo-Pollsh pact and the knowledgo must be both dis- couraging and evon frightening to Hitler and his hordes,"
