Rinks And Pairs Championship Matches

THREE MATCHES in the Colony Bowls Championship- one in the Rinks and two, in the Pairs were played yesterday. At the Civil Service C.C., J. C. Chalmers' rink beat A. Brooks- bank's 22-11, and H. J. Bicknell and G. W. Elphick beat C. H. Gough and T. Hayward 26-18, while at the Bowling Green Club, J. V. Ramsey and R. Morrison beat A. E. Carey and W. Mair 26-12.

The margin in all three games was sufficiently large to make play appear rather one-sided, but in one of the Pairs ties- that at the C.S.C.C.-the losers

Gough and Hayward opened enu- tiously and then with a 4. 3 and 2 on the 5th, 6th and 7th, ends led 11-4. With another 2 on the 9th they maintained the lend at 13-8, but over the next nine heads, Bicknell and Elphick gained the rim of the green and featured in a scoring streak that place them 25-13 in the lead at the 18th.

The Police pair made a great effort on the 19th, when they scored a. 4, but the bowling was too tight over the last two heads to permit them any real chance of recovering.

Fine Times Recorded

(By "Tinkor")

THOUGH FULLY OCCUPIED and busy with arrangements for their own gala on July 12 and the Combined meet on July 26, the Victoria Re- creation Club Committee have found time to con- sider the sponsoring of an Inter-Schools gala, the date of which will probably be during the first week in August.

Not many realise the amount of work that is neces- sary for the organisation of a gala, cven an ordinary Club gala, and still more for one such as the Combined func- tion for the War Funds later in the month.

There are some 30 Schools| that will doubtless take part in

the prospective Mect in August
