The 100 yards back-stroke race at the "Y"-University gala on Saturday. The swimmers are E. A. Roberts, Hui Kwan-Jun; B. S. Wilson (winner) and Wong Yat-hung.—— Ming Yuen.,

Rinks And Pairs Championship Matches

THREE MATCHES in the Colony Bowls Championship- one in the Rinks and two in the Pairs were played yesterday. At the Civil Service C.C., J. C. Chalmers' rink beat A. Brooke- bank's 22-11, and H. J. Bicknell and G. W. Elphick beat C. H. Gough and T. Hayward 26-18, while at the Bowling Green Club, J. V. Ramsey and R. Morrison beat A. E. Carey and W. Mair 26-12.

The margin in all threu games | was sufficiently large to make play appear rather one-sided, bat in one of the Pairs ties- that at the C.S.C.C.-the, losers

failed to maintain their opening run of scoring and lost by S shots.

Gough and Hayward opened cau- flously and then with a 4, 3 and 2 on the 5th, 6th and 7th ends led 11-4. With another 2 on the 9th they mainioined the lead at 13-0. but over the next nine hends, Bicknell and Elphick ained the run of the green and featured in o scoring streak that pluced them 25-13 in the Itad at the 18th.

The Police pair made a great effort on the 19th, when they scored 1 4. but the bowling was too light over

the last two heads to permit them my real chance of recovering,

THOUGH FULLY OCCUPIED and busy with arrangements for their own gala on July 12 and the Combined meet on July 26, the Victoria Re- creation Club Committee have found time to cón- sidor the sponsoring of an Inter-Schools` gala, the date of which will probably be during the first week in August.

Not many realise the amount of work that is neces- sary for the organisation of a gala, even an ordinary Club gala, and still more for one such as the Combined func- tion for the War Funds later in the month.

There are some 30 Schools that will doubtless take part in
