VICHY, June 26 (UP)—The British have increased their pressure on all fronts in Syria before the French can reinforce or send more material to General Deniz' dwindling defence forces, and for the first time since the start of the war, have turned their naval guns on Beirut. The squadron offshore which is fring directly into Beirut did considerable damage but the casualties were held low because a good portion of the civil population had been evacuated. [

(Reuter). Karyalal Munshil, the former Home Minister of Bombay, to resign from Congress following the latter's differ ence on the question of the use of non-violenco methods for defence in communal riots.

Munshi, in a letter to the Mahatme, stuled that he could not agree with Gandhi's advice to form peace brigades based on complete non- violence to check communal disturb- tances.
