The winner in a son of Hyperion who also sired last week's English Derby winner at Newmarket,

Solo Reins won favourite ́ ́at ́Bed with Kimro second nt 3-1 and Etoil do Lyons third at 0-1,

The race was won by a length with four lengths between second and third. The English challengers Easy Chair and Lynchtao were not in the picture.

THE WET WEATHER of the last few wooks has played havoc with bowls in the Colony, and not only has progress in the League been retarded: but in the championships as well. Last week was a completo wash-out and greens gonerally were so soddon that all but one match in the

· League programme wero cancelled,

The Open Pairs tournament, which always takes the longest time to complete, has been affected most by the rain. Only about half the matches in the first round have been played at the time of writing, and unless the weather allows the postponed games to be decided this week, I very much doubt whether the second round draw can yet be made for some days.

Weather permitting, the second round of

the Open Swimming Rinks will be decided on Sunday.
