Problematic Powers Of Baseball Captain
Field Change Orders Come From Coach
Diamond "Conversations" (By "Ball Fan")
Hot-stoving around the local baseball gab- fost strongholds, we hit into a red-hot conference by a group of rabid ball fans, who are out there every weekend at the ball park, on the relativo importanco, and actual duties of a field captain.
The average fan appears pretty vague when giving his conception of the actual chores which fall upon the field General. Many have asked, "just what are and what are not," the duties of a ball playing captain.

All will be gind that he caine through the operation auccessfully and he has promised to carry on at his club until the war is over, when, however, the members ore not likely to let him leave without a struggle.
He hins let it be known that he will not be seen in major events after the way. "That will be a job for the youngsters, there's plenty of them without we old men" he says.
There may be others, like Ilard, who will make a graceful retife- ment when the war is over; the war self may claim victims while Anno Domini is always calling a halt in the life of men who have left their name in sport.
TED DRAKE, the Arsenal forward,
is taking his golf very seriously these days and has a round on Harry Vardon's old course at Totteridge whenever he can snatch the oppor- tunity.
His ambition is to get his handicap down to scratch: at present it is 6.

Although your guess is as good as ours in this "Captain vs. pitcher" social meeting on the diamond, we heard from a well-known big leaguo authority last year, that the main purpose of this two-man conference is to allow the pitcher some much desired time.

However, on a well organised ball term a captain plays no defnite part; whatsoever in the actual manipula-| - tion of the team on the field.
For instance he has nothing whatsoever to do with the removali of a_plicher_from the mound_un-j less, of course, the said plicher han told him during the course of their "time-out" conversation, that he is definitely Brough. The Board for Two Players
Two Bridge players can use the DUO-BRIDGE Board anywhere and at any time; there is no need to go out to the Club these nights.
You will enjoy it in any situation, because it is the very best Bridge game for two people yet invented.
Lotus admit at once that there are certain technical difficulties which cannot be overcome. We are well aware of them-but they do not affect the character of the game in any way. Neither player sees more than his own hand white bidding and only his own hand and Dummy during play. It is obvious that peculiar bidding, psychics and wild jump-overbids are no use in such a game, indeed the hands have been very carefully selected.
