A GLANCE at the number of entries, or at- tendance at one of the matches, dispels all doubts as to the popularity of the Servicos and Y.M.C.A. water-polo tournament that made its debut just a short while ago.
It had a simple origin. It arose out of a discussion at the Y.M.C.A. on the running of a tournament in their own bath for "y" teams. It was then that G. T. May, C. Ure and A. F. Paul (members of the "Y" Committee) suggested an invitation tournament to include Service teams, the main object being to promote the standard of play among the Services and to give players a wider ex- perience in different pools (i.e. tactics),
The permission from the Army and Navy for the use of their pools was forthcoming im- mediately on application," and response from the various units was equally spontaneous. There! are now 14 teams in the Tour- nament, and of the 13 Service: 'teams, three are from the Navy.
