Difficulties in getting imports owing to the scarcity of ships and restrictions were mentioned by Mr J. K. Bousfield, Chairman, at the annual general meeting of the Hongkong General Chamber of Commerce yesterday.

Mr Bousfleld also spoke of the increasing Importance of the local industries, particularly shipbuilding, cement making and sugar refining, and said that in spite of all the difficulties, the commerce of the Colony had kept up remarkably well during the year under review.

The Hon. Mr Stanley H. Dodwell was elected Chairman for the ensuing year, with Mr G. Miskin na Vice-Chairman.
