Fifth Extra Meeting At Happy Valley To-morrow Distant View, Sapper And United Express Not Nominated For

Main Handicap Event

THE MOST IMPORTANT handicap event of the Fifth Extra Race Meeting at Happy Valley to-morrow is the Beas River Paddocks Handicap for all Australian ponies over the Derby course of 11⁄2 miles, though the three champions, Distant View, Sapper and United Express, have not been nominated for this new classic, which is worth $1,500 to the winner.

A little over a year we saw the creation of “D” class section for Australían ponies, but to-morrow the in- auguration of “E” class division to be ridden by novices will be an additional pillar set up by the Stewards in the interests of owners.

The meeting will be graced by the presence of His Excellency Sir Geoffry Northcote, accom. panied by the Governor of Macao and Madame Teixeira, and the whole party will be entertained to lunch by His Honour Sir Atholl MacGregor, Lady Mac- Gregor, and Mr S. T. William- son in their private box.

The curtain roiser will be the Carpenteria Handicap for the newly "E" class Australian ponies over the mile to be ridden by apprentices, and there are 17 entries.

Tsuis v. Rumjahns Doubles Final To-day

A great crowd should be present this evening on the Stand Court to witness the final of the Colony Open Doubles Tennis Champion- ship final. Once more the Rumjahn cousins, the holder, will be in opposition to the fine Tsul brothers and a five-set match is expected.

Though 1 do not expect that all will answer the roll-call, one may s+++++ look forward to seeing a large field, and the allotment of the poundage is those hard to follow, especially weights given to the youngsters of

THE MEET WILL CONCLUDE with a mile run in the Wallsend Handicap (second section) for "C" class Australian ponies and we are sure to have a nice field. The contest should be quite, interesting because the handicapper has as- signed to this Division all the placed subscription ponies of this season, and it will be their first occasion of meeting the mem- bers of the old “C” class.

In the latter, company Cocklerol and Longdon are the only two con-
