Savile Row Clothes For Americans

The United States is now get- ting £2,000,000 worth of Savile Row tailored men's wear from Britain a year.

One New York house, Jamous as "outfiters to gentlemen," has just received in a single order £20,000 worth of British tweeds, sultings, ties and shirtings. The crate, marked "Britain Delivers The Goods", is dis- played in the middle of one of their windows in Madison Ауспис. Тие sutts are selling at anything from 12

Strange Offer Of Marriage

Proposals of marriage lack nothing in novelty these war- time days: but the manner of Katrin Rossello's proposal from | Dr Peter Wachställer, of Now

York, must be a record,

Miss Rosselle, who is Czechoslo- vakian, met Dr Wachstaller, also a Czech, before he left for New York. Their engagement was announced in Sydney recently.

Miss Rosselle was at the Minerva Theatre, where she is playing in the current show, "Reunión in Vienna," when a phone call came through from New York.

As a wartime measure, foreign speech is forbidden by phone, and Miss Rosselle, having just heard Dr Wachstaller's volce, found their con versation interrupted by a series of clacking noises: then an interpreter's valco sald. The gentleman ringing you, Miss Rosselie, wants to know

you will marry him."

"Tell Him Yca"

"Oh, thank you," said 19-year-old Miss Roselle. Tell him yes."

Miss. Rosselle, is now wearing an engagement ring of three diamonds, set vertically. A photograph of her fance stands in a leather frame on the table in her dressing-room at the theatre,

The date of their marriage depends upon Miss Rosselle's obtaining per- mission to enter the USA. It will probably be at the end of the year. Business Interests

After their marriage, they hope to go back to Australia, es Dr Wach- staller has business "interests there, reports the Sydney Sun. Miss Rosselle is very anxious to continue her thea- irical carcer and

and work in pictures produced in Australia.

To Assume New Post

Macao, Mar. 31.

Mr C. M. de Sequeira, Chief of the Criminal Investigation De- partment of the Macao Police has been recalled to duty at the Department of Chinese Affairs, but it is reported that leading Chinese residents intend to peti- tion the local Government with a view to retaining the services of the officer in this Colony.

The petitioners are reported to be of the opinion that since the coming into force of the Immigration law in Hongkong, a large number of un- desirables and bad elements, pre- vented from entry into the British Colony, have congregated in Macao, so that a certain uneasiness prevails here.

A capable ofcer and ឌ popular member of the Portuguese com- munity, Mr Sequeira was appointed to his post here in 1930, since when he has been responsible for the solution of many cases of armed robbery and murder. His daring in the execution of his duties has earn- ed for him wide respect and admira- tion.

For effecting the arrest of a gang Annamite plotters who planned to foment
