JAPANESE ARMY TRADE FAILURE

LONDON, Apr. 1 (Reuter).—The “Economist” on March 29 stated that in Japanese-occupied China, the Japanese military have assumed complète economic control in the past 12 months.

To-day they dominute not only the semi-official Japanese development companies and their 30-odd subsidiary companies, but also the manufactured industries and all lines of trade which originally had been reserved for private Japanese interests.

Complete Japanese military control has made Occupied China's whole economy subsidiary to the various Japanese Army Commands lo China Proper.

The result is the complete absence, China for Japanese' private capital in these areas not only of Chinese but have disappeared.

Moreover, the control is being used to help in transforming Occupied China Proper into another Japanese Army reservation of the Manchurian and Korean types by excluding or auxiliary wor activity. LONDON, Apr. 1. (Reuter), -Mr. Yosuke Matsuoka; the Japanese Foreign Minister, who is now in Rome, had "what is described as a "cordial conversa- tion" with Count Ciano, the Italian Foreign Minister, at the Chigi Palace at 5 p.m. to-day.

After their conversation, Count Claro accompanied Mr Matsuoka to the Palazzo Venezia, where Mr Matsuoka saw Signor Mussolini:

Mussolini was in the uniform of an Honour Corporal and saluted the crowds. 'Mr Matsuoka wore a morn ing suit and a silk hat.
