Coventry, March 24 (UP) - Plans have. aiready been made. for a new and more beautiful Coventry to rise from the ruins of the first of the German "one- town-at-a-time-Blitz's."

They were in existence oven before the Germans ralded Coventry. The elty architect, Mr D. E. E. Glason, built a model for a local town plan- ning exhibition, which has now been brought out of its pigeonhole.

"Coventry to-day has a magnificent opportunity to local architect. portunity to make herself a city of the future," "Apart from the loss of life, the bombing of the city may well prove u blessing in disguise."

As the focus of his plan, Gibson has taken those buildings which, ex- cepting the Cathedral, Inrgely escaped the Nazi bombing.

Before Fombing Before the bombers came, these bulidings Holy Trinity Church, the Council House and the historie St Mary's Hall-were hidden by an un- planned Jumble of offices, shops und warehouses. To-day they stand out

a waste of ruins. amid st

In the future, if Gibson's plans are followed, they will be surrounded by tree-fringed lawns. Pool Meadow, which t

A huge new block of buildings, enclosing more lawns, will lie north not of the Cathedral, and will be more than three storeys high so us not to obstruct the view.

War At Home LAST 4 TIMES TO DAY

Cannot Keep

Down Racing.

LONDON, Mar. 24 (Reuter). Shorn of the usual peacetime glamour and bound by restrictions: conditions, nat through wartime racing for the season begins with tho Lincolnshire Handicap 01 Lincoln on Wednesday,

Despite the anti-sport element which has been responsible for the eancellation of the Grand National, one of the biggest turf spectacles in the world, with the exception of the Derby, the fact that racing has over- corne more obstacles in the last nine months than in its whole history proves that it is generally required both as a successful breeding industry and a relaxation for all those parti- cipating in the war effort.

in

Despite conditions which require the rationing of foodstuffs, even for

reduced number the

of horses trutning, there is great optimism, and owners of all types varying from a peer who was a former Secretory of State for Indin, to n Doncaster publican are competing for the firsi big prize.

Transport difficulties will naturally restrict attendance at the meeting, al which-khaki-and-the-air-force-blue will provide a splash of colour, and many Jockeys will parade in the paddock with Air Force, or Army overcoats over their silics.
