Coal In Colony Costing More

The price of household coal yes- terday rose to $68 n ton for delivery at the Peak. A week ngo it was retailed at $50, and this big increase in price is attributed to carcity of Transport vessels, it is learned from a reliable source that the present price may yet higher.

Household coal is now imported fram

India und Java, and two steamers under charter by private firms carry supplies to Hongkong each month.

The average prices ruling before the China Incident and the European War were $20 and $20 per ton res- pectively,

The

highest price for household

coal in 1940 was in the early part of the year, when it was retalled at $50 per ton. Coal was sold at an average price of $40 per ton during the re- maining months of fast year.
