More Police Wanted. As has been announced. In addition to the Police Reserve, the Government has estab- fished a corps of 500 street guards, for street patrol against crime. These guards are to be known as Special Constabulary and are to go on duty
soon.
Meanwhile, Government has de- elded also to increase the strength of the Police Reserve. The Hon. Mr W. Perdue, neling Commissioner of Pallee, issues the following appeal:
"The Police Reserve la one of the Civil Defence organisations of this Colony. It is different from other auxillary organisationa, in that it has been in existence since 1027 and that been its members have frequently called upon for duty at various times since that year. In case this Colony in subjected to attack, the Reserve will perform an important function in supplementing the strength of the regular Police Force.
Police
"The strength of the Police Reserve has already risen from a total of 343 In January, 1946, to a total of $60 at the present lime,
"in view of the heavy task which would fall on the Police Force should hostilitles extend to this Colony, it is desired to Increase the Police Re- serve to n total strength of 1,500 as soon as posalble.
"The Reserve in composed of the Chinese Company, Indian Company, the Flying Squad and the Emergency Unit. The last three have already almost reached maximum strength and the Increase now proposed in the Pollee Reserve must therefore be nchloved mainly by an increase. In the strength of the Chinese Company,
"I appeal therefore to all young men of Chinese race who have not yet joined one or other of the Colony's civil defence organisations to come forward and take their share In the defence of the Colony by join- ing the Police Reserve. Young men who are keen on gaines and an out- door life will find the Police Reserve work attractive,
