Society For Protection Of Children

The Editor,

Hongkong Telegraph. Sir, May 1 through the medium of your externed paper appeal to its many readers to give old to a cause, which I am sure, is worthy of their consideration.

I refer to the Society for the Pro- lection of Children. As many of your renders will recollect, Sir Atholl MacGregor, the

Chlef Justice of Hongkong, made very stirring speech over the radio sometime ago the pubile to donate genor- to this Society which I under- stand is sorely in need of funds to the extent of approximately $28,000, to enable it to carry on for the eur- rent

year.

I venture therefore to

suggest method

through these columns, whereby this sum, or part of it, could possibly be raised towards helping a a most deserving cause.

There are in Hongkong approxim- ately 13,000 subscribers to the Hong- kong. Telephone Company and, on each deposit made by tere sub scribers, a certain amount of interest Is payable by the Company annually, If these subscribers or a large portion of them would only waive their Inter- est, which could not be possibly more than 2 or 3 per cent, and donate- same to the Society, I do not see why substantial sum should not be raised.

I

Although I am fully aware that in Hongkong there are other Societles worthy of consideration yet, never- theless, I earnestly hope that your many readers will give my suggestion their due support.
