LONDON CABBIES PROTEST

Living Affected By Free Lifts

London taxicab drivers who are finding it hard to make ends meet now that the capital's life shuts down with the black-out, are incensed at the Ministry of Transport's "Help Your Neigh- bour" scheme.

Under this plan, motorists living within 20 miles of London who travel to the capital daily are asked to give lifts to others who have the samo journey to make: for this they will get extra petrol.

"For months now a new army of hitch-hikers have been stand- ing about the kerb-sides asking motorists for lifts," a taxi-driver said.

"If they get a lift, well and good;

to take taxis and used to do so."

Appreciation

Of War Aid

Finns Decorate Swedes At a simple ceremony recently |in Stockholm, over 200 Swedes were awarded Finnish distinc- tion, either the "Liberty Cross" or the "White Rose", in recogni- tion of services rendered to Fin land during the war against Russia last winter.

The distinctions were handed over by the Finnish Minister to Sweden, Mr. Jarl Wasastjerna.

In connection with the ceremony he made a speech in which he said, among other things, that the Swedish aid constituted a spontaneous action from the entire Swedish people and that it had been of great importance for his nation. The already existing strong bonds between the two peoples were knit harder through this evi- dence of solidarity, be further said, and it had cheered the Finna to feel that they had the support of friends.
