The Shirogane Maru arrived in harbour this morning from Canton after laying over at Liniin Island during a rough night, The Japanese Consul General, who had flown from Shanghai to Taihoku to Cunton, was

The ship delayed her sailing owing to the heavy mist over the river and she lay off Whampoa until 6 p.m. The Hongkong harbour is closed at night and the ship therefore made her way to Lintin Island which is a Japanese air base in the mouth of the river.
Australian Soldiers Have A Good Time SYDNEY, Jan. 22 (Reuter).—Mr Percy Spender, the Australian Army Minister, was "bombed" in his car by sky-larting soldiers here to-day.
The "bomb," which was made of a mixture of flour and chalk, "ex- ploded" over Mr Spender's chauffeur.
The soldiers, who were in a millt- ary truck with a shark tied to the back, threw the bomb as Mr Spender was on his way from Palm Beach to the city.
Mr Spender took the "bombing" in good part, saying, "The boys were having a good time. I don't intend to take any netion."
