DAMAGE DONE AT TARANTO: OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHS

The three photographs on this page were taken on, reconnaissance.by tha Royal Air Foron 'after the crippling affack on, the Italian ficet al Taranto by the Fleet Air Arm on the night of November 11/12 last.

A botter appreciation of the pictures may be gained it a glance is given first to the map below, which shows the position of the Italian batileships before the attack (A) and the positions to which they were towed afterwards (D). Figures 3, 4 and 5 arc undamaged battleships. Two crulaers which were also damaged are shown (7 and 8).

Top picture shows a Cavour class battleships down by the bows and beached on the northeast shore of the outer harbour. (Nos. A and GB on map).

The lower left-hand picture shows a 35,000-ion batileship of the Littorio clam badly down by the bows in the merchant anchorage in the middle of The outer harbour, Salvage ships and tugs are alongside, with oil on the waler. (No. 1A and 13 on map).

Lower right-hand pleture shows a 23,622-ton battleship of the Cavour clam beached on the east shore of the outer harbour. There is a heavy Ist to starboard, with the whole of the starboard side submerged. The atern is completely submerged aft of rear gun turrets. There is all on the water. On the right, another battle- ship of the Cavour class.
