DECLARATIONS

EARLY AND LATE K.C.C. Juniors Hold On Too Long:

L. T. Ride Saves University

THERE WERE two rather curious games on Saturday last and they illustrated two very different views on cricket. The I.R.Č. made a very sporting declaration against the University first cleven to onable them to have a chance of winning. The fact that they lost, does not to my mind alter the fact that they did the right thing.

Batsmen In Scoring Mood

Against the University second,-not a dangerous. batting side though they can keep their wickets up-the K.C.C. second eleven held on 'until ten past four when they had 211 on the board. It is true that it enabled two men to complete their centuries. But it probably cost the side a win.

Hulse batted very well for the Craigengower side, and I was sorry only to see the last third of his innings. Going in first 'wieket down he remained unde- fented at the end of the innings scoring fifty-eight.

and Monday afternoons became get- together day in which the band shaking and greetings almost made the actual boxing a poor obligato.

THEN, when no neroplanes came

war was not going to be the com- pletely devastating-thing-they-im- agined, and Mr Hulls put his shows on in the evenings on Mondays.

The next and really first bie boxing event was the lightweight championship title bout at Harrin- ray Arena in which Erlo Boon Kuccessfully defended his "crown against the former champion,' Dave

Crowley.

This finished disappointing, for after seven rounds, Crowley's Achilles tendon on his right leg went and Boon thus retained his cham- pionship. Probably he would have done so anyway, but the mercurial Crowley can be accounted just a little unlucky on that occasion,
