Week-end Batting Honours To J.F. Lawrence And K. Y. Tam
Ja
*Several teams were rather cut up by Camps on Saturday last and there was not anything of outstanding interest except the defeat of the Club by the University. The former side was really an A. side in charge of Major Grose-but they seemed perfectly safe in their de claration. But one had not counted on the extraordinary weakness of their bowling, or on the fact that the Varsity would take advantage of it to bring off a very stout batting performance. Two centurios in one Saturday after- noon game have been made several times before. But speaking from memory I think it is a good many years since a century was hit for the Var- sity in what may practically rank as a first division game.

The change to opening batsman has certainly seemed to suit J. F. Lawrence very well. He hit up a very fine century against the University and was not dropped though he told me he put a dangerous one through the slips which did not quite go to hand. Grose, Booker and Bateman did little, all of them falling to N. Singh whom I believe to be Naranjan Singh whose bat ting in the second eleven I have been writing up as worthy of the first team. But among so many Singhsilliards Social, which commences at I rather lose the exact melody.

After their stand Alec Mackenzie (16) was less agricultural than usual and when Grose declared at a quarter to four I thought he had a win or anyway a draw in his It was of course the pocket. only thing to do.
