New Appointment
LONDON, Nov. 28 (Reuter). -Lieut. General Claude Jolin Eyre Auchinleck. hns been appointed Commander-in-Chief, India. In succession to General Sir Robert Cassels.
The appointment takes effect early in 1941.
The new Commander-in-Chief goes to India from the post of General Omeer Commanding the Southern Command, where he has been engag- ed. in perfecting the last detalls of Southern England's defences against any threat of invasion.
At the age of 56, Lieut. General Auchinleck has a high reputation for shrewdness in outlook and vigour in netlon in all its aspects, having had wide regimental and staff experience there.
He was a member at the Chatfield Committee on the defences of India and in that capacity made a first-hand study of all sides of India's growing war effort,
