SCATHING AMERICAN COMMENT
FERRIER'S BAN Disqualified Because He Was Sports-writer
Entries For H.K. Amateur
(By "Birdio")
WHATEVER may have been the upheavals in Australia following the United States Golf Asso- ciation's ban on Jim Ferrier for the U. S. Amateur, loud were the rumblings in the American Press, and with their unbounded freedom of speech made no bones about their displeasure.
One paper says that he was debarred on the eve of the competition because of the publication in Australia of his book "Jim Ferrier's Golf Shots" and another imputes the ban to the fact that he is a sports-writer for an Australian newspaper. But though they might be divided in their opinions why he was disqualified, they are unanimous in expressions of surprise and indignation at the ruling.

Two Bridge players can use the DUO-BRIDGE Board anywhere and at any time; there is no need to go out to the Club on these black nights.
You will enjoy It In any situation, because it is the very best Bridge game for two people yet invented.
Let us admit at once that there are certain technical · · difficulties which cannot be overcome. We are well aware of them but they do not affect the character of the game in any way. Neither player sees more than his own hand while bidding and only his own hand and Dummy during play.
It is obvious that peculiar bidding, psychics and wild jump-overbids are no use in such a game, indeed the hands have been very carefully selected

Unfounded Rumours Of Cancellation
Lawrence & Lau Yiu-ting Selected to Swim
(By "Tinker")
RUMOURS, which are pertainly not founded on any official. Informa- tion, are circulating that the Interport swimming meet with the Philippines the is to be cancelled owing to situation in the Far East. They arose, I should imagine, out of idle conversation.
Only hitch in the programme is that there is some slight difficulty be ing experienced in securing sufficient accomodation on vessels sailing for the end of Hongkong around the month
Otherwise everything is proceeding as announced,
Final selections for the Hongkong Interport team are W. Lawrence and Lau Yu-ting. The former appeared after long absence in the trials at the V.R.C. yesterday, and clocked 50 seconds for the 100 yards free-style. beating both Ng Tun-man and A. V. Ozorio,
In the 100 yards back-stroke, he returned a time of 70% seconds, which is only secs. short of the championship time returned by A. K. Rumfahn.
