Late Dr. Heu Chien The large attendance at the funeral service for the late Dr. George Hsu Chien, held in St. John's Cathedral on Saturday, testified to the respect In which he was held in educational and other circles.

Dr. Hsu was a veteran Kuomintang leader, and was for many years; Chinesc

and Minister of Justice President of the Supreme Court. He was known as one of the most talent- ed men of his generation.

Dr. Hau, who died on September 26 at the age of 69, leaves a widow, twis sons and three daughters, who were the chief mourners al the service on Saturday.

RELIEF OF DISTRESS

Appeal For More Funds By Council

The Hongkong Refugee and Social Welfare Council, which has done, and is doing, much to alleviate the distress among refugees and destitute poor, has lasted an appeal for more funds in the form of a Icaflet.

The nims of the Council.are (1) to co-ordinate the charitable work iti the Colony so as to avoid overlapping in work and distribution of funds; (2) to erect permanent centres for the poor; and (3) to inquire into housing, industrial and recreation problems in congested areas.
