Joan Pemberton Beaten 5/4 At Roehampton

Effects Of Heavy Rain

(By "Birdie")

THOUGH CONSIDERABLY LATE in its ar- rival in Hongkong, news is at last here of the final of the "Daily Sketch” Women's War Relief Fund Tournament-17-year-old Maureen Ruttle boat Joan Pemberton 5 and 4 at Rochampton to take what is gonerally recognised to be the women's 1940 (unofficial) championship. The match was over 18 holes.

This competition was divided into two sections Northern and Southern--Miss Pemberton was the winner of the first and Miss Ruttle the second, and the result of the final was the latter's revenge for the defeat she sus- tained when they met in semi-finals of the 1938 Women's Championship.
