U.S. Must Make Sacrifices

almost LONDON, Aug. 27 (Reuter),—In an Churchillian speech, Mr. J. Cudahy, former United States Ambassador to Belgium said to-day:

"Whether we like it or not we must make sacrifices and prepare to annihilate ourselves, but we must play our part."

He added that his voice demanded the strengthening of the U.S. army and navy and he expressed confidence that the United States would meet the challenge despite the existence of 63 pacifist organisations whore prayers were insufficient to meet the case.

Adequate defence is the only remedy and the only guarantee of permanent peace, he declared.
