CHUNG SING PROTEST Judges' Award In Fifty Yards Race Disputed: Error Of

Hand Timing

(By "Ripplo")

MAIN TOPIC of conversation among swim. mers over the week-end, apparently, has been the action of the Chung Sing Swimming Club in walk- ing out of the quadrangular gala at the European Y.M.C.A. on Saturday night. They had a grouse -strong and legitimate-—there is littlo question of that, but what has come in for strong criticism was their method of expressing their dissatisfac-

tion.

If there should be anyone yet unaware of the reason for the incident, I would recount that in the 50 yards free-style D. H. Taylor (V.R.C.) and Ng Taun-man (Chung Sing) were adjudged to have dead-heated in 25 seconds flat. Chung Sing disputed the decision, but un- der the methods used to obtain the result there was no likelihood of the judges changing their opinions, and Chung Sing were, perforce, without satisfaction.

It was anticipated that Th

finish would be very close, and Home Cricket the Y.M.C.A. and considered the difficulties there

Incidentally, in the 100 Yards breast-stroke, where the "butterfly" was also allowed, 1. M. Remedios (V.R.C.) used the modern stroke ngainst Fong Chong-yue, and though Remedios gained almost half length's lead ever the Arst three lengths, the stroke took so much out of him that he lost that lead over the last length end only managed to win just over 2 touch-not 1% seconds as announced.

WITH the withdrawal of Ng

His style continues to cause amazement He

How- over, judging by what he can do with his arms alone, someone did express wonderment of what he could do with a log action as well.

But I have read of these swim- iners before. There is one, in America, I believe, who cannot do much without his legs being tied Brst!
