RICHARD BURTON BEATS IN "DAILY MAIL" TOURNEY

War Fund Contributions Now Exceed £18,000

IRISH AMATEUR FINALISTS

(By "Birdio")

RICHARD BURTON (Sale), the Open Cham pion, won the “Daily Mail" £500 war-time profes- sional golf tournament with a record score of 280 -8 undor four's—at Sundridge Park, Bromley, on June 14, and secured first prize of £100. "The tournament, which was in aid of the British Rod Cross War Fund, netted about £300,

Henry Cotton, former Open Champion, and last year's winner of this same tournament, was second with 281. This win is, perhaps, slight compensation to Burton for his unlucky financial period as champion.
