Evacuation To Manila: First Photographs

AN EVENT únique and aignificant in the history of this Colony is pictured in the photographs on this and the following page of to-day's "Hongkong Tele- graph".

Through the courtesy of the "United Press Asso- ciation" the "Telegraph" publishes the first photo- graphs of the arrival of our women and children in Manila after last week's mass evacuation by the Empress of Asia and the Empress of Japan.

In all the turbulent hun- dred years of Hongkong's history as a Colony, evacu- ation of its women and children has never before been necessary.

Even now, few if any people in Hongkong know why evacuation was or dered. The order was dictated by necessity and has been carried out by the women and children you see on these pages
