At the time of his death, Dr. Bar- bosa was serving his third term as Governor of Macao. Success Achieved

When he reached Maeno again in 1926, it was to find an Improverished Colony, with a depleted exchequer, and anti-foreign feeling among the Chinese population. By his tact and franicness, he soon succeeded in gain- ing goodwill, including that of the authoritles of the districts adjacent to Macao and of the Canton provincial government. A fast friendship be tween himself and many leading Chinese officials was the result. The kindness which he showed to Dr. Sun Yat-sen In the latter's second
