STATISTICS, usually, are not the best means of_making_sports comparisons, in fact, several people go as far as to say that they do not agree with the compiling of sports statistics at all, but in athletics, at least, times and distances are often the only facts upon which one can assess relative yesterday, owing to the sodden values.

To this latter meet went the stars from the Philippines, and the times and distances were most illuminating.

As odious as ever, this com-¡ parison is especially so-to the Colony. But in fairness it must be pointed out that the East Asia Meet attracted the best athletes there are (China ex- cepted) in the Far East. Both the Filipinos and the Japanese are of world Olympic standard and it is hardly expected that little Hongkong could produce runners and jumpers to reach up! to them.
