BRITAIN'S Navy is about to be rainforced by five of the largest, most powerfully armed and most strongly protected battleships in the world. These vessels-King George V., Prince of Wales, Duke of York, Jellicoe and Beatty-are now undergoing their trials.

They are the largest battleships ever built in this country, and are exceeded in size only by the Lion and Temeraire and two others not yet named, which are still under con- struction, and will displace at least 40,000 tons.

Delivery has al ready begun of light cruisers and destroyers of pre-war programmes, as well as of the 20 high-speed extort vessels of 000 tons, of, the "Hunt" class, ordered last year. While the "unsinkable" battleship is st a vision, the King George V type approaches this ideal more nearly than any Carlier vessel.

Compared with the Nelson, the percentage of

ngainst torpedo, mine or bomb, is much Inercazed. If deck annour is included, the total weight of defensive elements is 40 per cent, of the full displacement of the ship, viz., 35,000 tons.
