CLUB CRICKET

SPORTS NEWS DEVELOPMENT OF War Situation Does Not Permit Usual County Schedule

Golf Championships And Motor Racing Suspended

LONDON, May-One offect of the war may be that spectators deprived of their county cham pionship gamos may turn to watching Club cric- ket, which promises to be played on a big scale, and it is possible that the spectators so drawn 'remain watching Club games after the war may is over.

The high standard of play in Club cricket is rarely recognised. Most people look on English cricket as an affair of counties, with a few Clubs playing somewhere out of the usual line of vision, but these week-ond games provide bright play, and quick results in comparison to the sometimes dull play of the three-day county matches.

The position is not compara- ble to that of Australia, where

the mainstay of the game is the Nurmi Sees

Club-programme.

in which all

the leading players take part. A player makes his name with a Club before he is noticed for Helection by his State for in- clusion in the Sheffield Shield matches.
